Assistance with Rental and Utility Arrears Available

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact our lives, the City of Stratford Social Services Department wants to remind residents of Stratford, St. Marys and Perth County that programs are available to provide financial assistance for arrears related to rental costs and utility costs.

Replacement of north shore footbridge begins Jan. 11

Please be advised that the pathway on the north side of the Avon River, between Waterloo Street and Hillcrest Drive, will be closed starting Monday (Jan. 11) to allow for the replacement of the pedestrian footbridge near the intersection of James Street and William Street.

That bridge, which was built in 1970, was recommended to be replaced in a 2019 inspection report.

Construction is expected to last until mid-April, and the new bridge will be built in the same location.

Extension of Emergency Child Care for Essential Workers

On January 7, the Province of Ontario announced it would be extending the provision of emergency child care for eligible essential workers for their school-aged children.

These spaces will be allocated in chronological order from application date and will only be available to those who are on the list of eligible workers for emergency child care who have exhausted all other possibilities for child care. The targeted emergency child care program will be provided at no cost to eligible parents.

Delivery of Affordable Bus Passes Available to Eligible Stratford Transit Customers

As a convenience to our customers during the lockdown, Stratford Transit will deliver Affordable bus passes to those who are eligible, starting Monday, January 11.

To arrange for delivery of an Affordable bus pass, please call the Clerk's Office at 519-271-0250 extension 237.

Electronic payment through credit card will be accepted over the phone, and cash (exact change) will be accepted upon delivery. Deliveries will be made Monday through Friday, and we will try to deliver by the next business day...

COVID-19 Outbreak at Stratford Fire Department

Five members of the Stratford Fire Department have tested positive for COVID-19.

The City of Stratford and the Stratford Fire Department are working closely with Huron Perth Public Health to manage the outbreak. The affected members are following proper protocols and isolating at home.
