The City of Stratford is moving forward with plans to redevelop the former Grand Trunk property just outside the downtown core.

Keeping the community informed and engaged continues to be a significant part of the planning process for this generational project, which could include a shared community facility, housing, outdoor amenity space and parking.

Here is an update on the next steps for the Grand Trunk renewal:

APRIL 9 - WORKSHOP #3

On April 9, a third and final Grand Trunk workshop will be held for City Council, aimed at giving councillors the details they need to make an informed decision on the future of the property. Workshop #3 will provide an overview of the first two workshops, and will touch on:

  • Long-term financial planning considerations
  • A shared community facility with the YMCA and Stratford Public Library
  • Integration of the Grand Trunk site into the downtown parking strategy
  • A market sounding process to inform future development

This session will be held in the Council Chambers at City Hall, starting at 6 p.m., and is open to the public. The agenda with background information is available at https://calendar.stratford.ca/meetings/Detail/2026-04-09-1400-Committee-of-the-Whole-Open-Session

A video recording of the workshop will also be available on the City’s website afterward, along with the recordings of the first two sessions.

No decisions will be made at this workshop.

APRIL 20 - SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING

On Monday, April 20 starting at 6 p.m., a special City Council meeting will be held to give residents an opportunity to share their input on the Grand Trunk renewal project.

Those who would like to speak at the meeting are asked to register online by April 20 at 10 a.m. The registration form, along with information about speaking as a delegation, is available on the City’s website at https://www.stratford.ca/en/inside-city-hall/appearingasadelegation.aspx

No decisions will be made at this meeting.

APRIL 27 – REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING

At its regular meeting scheduled for Monday, April 27 starting at 7 p.m., City Council will consider a management report with recommendations, including a proposed municipal contribution toward a shared community facility, and will provide direction on the next phase of the project.

Background information about the Grand Trunk site is available on the City’s website at https://www.stratford.ca/en/inside-city-hall/cooper-block.aspx

Expanded project information can also be found on our Engage Stratford site at https://engagestratford.ca/grand-trunk-renewal
